Introduction
The promotion of statistics as a discipline that we should encourage a better understanding of our country is one of the main activities to be carried out by the Statistical Institute of the Balearic Islands ( IBESTAT ). Therefore, with the aim of contributing to the revitalization of all the research work and papers that since civil society, academic, business, institutional or staff are performed in this field have tried to institute an award that serves as recognition of this commitment, while providing incentive to continue in our society the benefits of knowledge that have helped to deepen the reality of the Balearic Islands.
Antoni Montserrat Montserrat
Antoni and Moll (1954-2006) was an example of dedication to statistics. Throughout his career he authored many statistical publications, mainly devoted to the incidence of labor in the evolution of the general economy. It was, however, as Director General of Economy of the Government of the Balearic Islands deployed their great efforts to an intensive dissemination of statistical data regarding community Balearics. Among its initiatives include the PIE (Point Unified Statistics) as a CD-ROM containing the main statistical products relating to the Islands, which reached almost every household of our islands. Of the many publications that promoted on paper, should be mentioned in the Balearic Islands in Figures, that gave my six languages \u200b\u200b(Catalan, English, English, German, French and Italian). In his attempt to popularize the statistics put up a folder with the original system data themes tengué a wide distribution in academic fields. In this sense starts the school competition to promote the knowledge of statistics between different secondary school students, which has a large participation of the centers of each of the islands. Finally, Congress was the promoter of Economy of the Balearic Islands, where in addition to renowned personalities from the economic, academic, business and political and outside the Islands, about 1,300 people participated, and where the statistic was one of the key elements that were tackled.
